The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation is planning to set up a micro-business centre (MBC) here in collaboration with the National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(ni-msme).
The MBC, to be set up with an investment of Rs 25 lakh and funded by the ministry, will promote entrepreneurship among the slum people and economically backward people and create self-employment for them.
“There will be a micro plan of a region, depending on the internal bandwidth of a slum, where we will assess the potential based on the requirements. We are in the process of finalising the centre,” said NVNS Dev, registrar, ni-msme.
According to him, the centre would become functional from September this year and the first batch will have an intake of 25-30 candidates. The programme includes training in entrepreneurship development for two weeks and need-based skill development programme for one to three months.
The curriculum would be based on developing entrepreneurial abilities like confidence building, risk taking ability, communication skills, achievement motivation, goal setting, preparation of bankable reports, knowledge on schemes and incentives of government, marketing skills and financial management skills.
This is primarily for livelihood promotion through urban micro finance and sustainable self-help groups, Dev added. The centre would be based on the public-private partnership model involving non governmental organisations, municipality and stakeholders.
The ministry plans to set up 10 such centres across India in future, said Chukka Kondaiah, director general, ni-msme.
