NIIT Technologies has launched a Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) in Jharkhand.
The programme will empower Jharkhand Police force with real-time crime and criminal information across the state with a view to enhance security and improve service to citizens.
First phase implementation has begun in two pilot districts, Ranchi and Khunti, at 44 police stations and 57 higher offices.
The project will link 478 police stations, connect 628 locations, and train 42,000 police personnel across the districts of Ranchi and Khunti, to help getting them familiarized with the digitization know-how.
"With CCTNS in place, there will be a huge scope of improvement in the functioning of police, and to keep track of progress of 22 Lakh records and reduce manual and redundant records. People can lodge an FIR online or check the status of an investigation by the click of a mouse, and can request the police for various kinds of verification online," NIIT said in a press statement.
“All the police stations of the state will go online in a year’s time, with the help of NIIT Technologies, and BSNL. Unlike earlier, when we used to monitor crime rates at the end of the month, we can now monitor it at any given point in time,” said,R K Mallick,Inspector General.
Currently, NIIT Technologies is working with 4 states – Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, under the CCTNS programme. This project is part of the Union Government’s announcement to implement the programme across12 states. The programme has been quite successful and has been running as per the schedule.
