Japanese auto major Nissan today said it expects to sell about two lakh cars in India by 2012, after it commences production in the country.
"India is a very important market for us and we have been focusing on how to localise the products and bring more models in the market. We have a five-year mid-term plan under which we expect to sell about 200,000 units in India by 2012," Renault Nissan Automotive India Managing Director Shouhei Kimura told PTI on the sidelines of the 48th SIAM Annual Convention 2008 here.
At present, the company is undertaking construction of its manufacturing unit in Chennai through a joint venture with French parent Renault.
The plant is expected to go onstream by 2010.
"From 2010 onwards, we may have new vehicles in India besides the small car built on the A platform," Kimura said.
Between now and 2010, the company plans to introduce new vehicles as well.
