Commenting on the sales performance, Nissan Motor India Vice-President Business Management Ajay Raghuvanshi said: "After the excise duty cut was announced in the Budget, we immediately passed on the benefit to customers and dealers were also compensated. We started on the right note although nothing much was happening in the market in terms of consumer sentiments."

The Datsun Go has also received good response from the market and there have been over 50,000 inquiries already across India, he added.

In the fiscal ended March 31, 2014, the company's sales stood at 38,217 as against 36,975 units in the previous year, up 3.4 per cent.

Nissan Terrano was the biggest contributor to sales, achieving 14,998 units since its launch in October 2013, while the Micra range comprising of Micra Active and Micra hatchbacks sold 12,595 units during the fiscal, the company said.
