Japanese carmaker Nissan has recalled 421 imported Civilian passenger buses in China due to design problems, the country's quality watchdog said today.

The imported Civilian buses sold on the Chinese mainland were made between March 1, 2004 and February 9, 2009, said a statement on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

The defects are mainly caused by design problems that may lead to friction between the fuel pipe and gear shift.

Though the friction will not cause fuel leakages, the designs fail to meet China's compulsory standards, said the statement.

The manufacturer will check and replace the flawed parts to tackle the problems.
