The proposed steel plant of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh will go on stream in 2011.
“The NMDC have been asked to take up the work on top priority as it is the ambitious project and complete the work in 36 months so that the production can be started from August 15, 2011,” Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said while laying the foundation stone for the steel plant with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh in Bastar district late today afternoon.
The NMDC--country's biggest iron ore producer and exporter—is setting up a 3-million tonnes per annum (mtpa) integrated steel plant in Nagarnaar, about 350 kms from the state capital in Bastar district, with an investment of Rs 12000 crore.
“Bihar is reeling under flood fury and I have to go there. But I changed the programme and visited Bastar that speaks how important the proposed steel plant is,” Paswan said, adding that the plant will go for a major capacity expansion later after commissioning. The Steel Minister thanked Dr Singh and said he took special interest to set the project on roll.
