Nokia India has appointed P Balaji as vice-president and managing director to lead the company’s mobile phones and smartphones business in the country. He was earlier the managing director of Sony Mobile Communications, India.
Apart from building and consolidating the company’s market presence, Balaji would “focus on energising the Nokia brand, driving partnerships and strategic alliances and developing the capabilities of the Nokia organisation in India,” said the company on Friday.
D Shivakumar, senior vice-president, IMEA Nokia, said, “Balaji is highly respected in the information technology and telecom industry and has an excellent track record of managing businesses, people, customer and government relationships. He brings in exceptional understanding of the telecom industry, having worked in diverse functions across the sector.”
In Sony Mobile Communications, he was responsible for establishing operator and distribution partnerships and driving sales for the company.
