PepsiCo has already lined up an investment plan of Rs 33,000 crore by 2020. "We want to focus on it now," Nooyi said, on the sidelines of IIM Calcutta convocation here today. Nooyi is an alumnus of the institute and chaired the 50th convocation of the institute. "I think, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is absolutely right in saying 'Make in India''. Ultimately, he is trying to build a base in manufacturing and employment, which is very good," Nooyi said. PepsiCo yesterday opened the first phase of the largest beverage plant in India yesterday.
"Almost everything we sell in India, is made in India and Sri City plant opening was the first phase our largest beverage plant in India," Nooyi said, to highlight PepsiCo's commitment to 'Make in India'.
The plant in Andhra Pradesh will manufacture a range of beverages, including fruit juice-based drinks, carbonated soft drinks, and sports drinks. Once fully operational, it will have nine production lines, the first of which commenced yesterday.
