The work on the Kalpakkam fast breeder reactor will commence in January 2004 and has seven-year gestation though Nuclear Power hopes to complete it in five years, chairman and managing director V K Chaturvedi said.
The prospective sites and the expenditure for the other four FRBs have not yet been finalised.
Nuclear Power Corporation also announced that the fast breeder reactor project will be separate company which will be registered in Chennai next month and will be jointly funded by the Centre ( 75 per cent), Nuclear Power Corporation ( 5 per cent) and borrowings from the market (20 per cent).
