NSDC partner, Edulight Careers to expand in North

With expanded operations Edulight Careers is planning to impart skill to 126,000 candidates for jobs in the retail sector

After making its presence felt in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Odhisa, Chandigarh-based skill trainer, Edulight Careers ,a National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) partner, plans to expand its footprint in the northern region by introducing training centres in Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar in Punjab and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. Overall, it is planning to add around 50 centres across India especially in Tier-II & Tier-III cities, taking the total number of centres to 125 by the end of FY15.

Speaking to Business Standard, Ajay Sachdeva, director of Edulight Careers said, "With 76 active centres, we have a presence in over 50 districts across India through our vocational tranining associates (VTAs) in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Odisha. We plan to open around 50 more centres by end of this financial year."

With expanded operations, it is planning to impart skill to 126,000 candidates for job opportunities in the retail industry. It provides 100 per cent placement assistance for the candidates trained at their centres.

Edulight is affiliated with the Retailers Association's Skill Council of India (RASCI), the apex skill council for retail sector. Currently, it delivers innovative skill enhancement solutions in the domain of organised retail, sales, soft skills, gems and jewellery through various courses validated by the NSDC.

Post its association with the NSDC in February 2013, Edulight in partnership with the NSDC runs skill development centres for 10th and 12th pass outs/drop- outs, under graduates and graduates across India.

It has also been empanelled by the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), Government of India, Ministry of Defence to conduct training for retiring personnel for the specific courses allotted for the year 2014 -15.

On being asked about the future courses, the company intends to commence, he added, "Currently, we have applied to NSDC to run course pertaining to telecom sector. We also have plans to impart training for Information Technology(IT) & IT-enabled services jobs aspirants, banking and finance, among others."

It has successfully completed the requirements to be recognised as a training partner for the National Skill Certification and Monetary Reward Scheme known as STAR (Standard Training and Assessment Reward) Scheme, which aims to encourage skill development for youth by providing monetary rewards for successful completion of approved training programmes.

Further, understanding the financial constraints that young students face, Edulight Careers has tied up with Milaap as its enabling partner, where the candidates can avail loans from them for attending the courses at affordable installments at Rs 500 per month, and hence, can concentrate on the training.
