State-owned NTPC today said it has established a computerised monitoring system for its power projects across the country.

"NTPC today commissioned growth management centre to provide real time IT-based monitoring of projects all over the country," a company statement said adding that it would be linked to the Power Ministry and Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation.

"The Centre shall enhance the concerted efforts to meet the growing electricity requirements of the country," Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said here.

The operation monitoring centre (OMC) shall monitor coal movement, environment data, efficiency parameters, loss of generation and health equipment round the clock.

NTPC recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for development of 500 MW renewable energy based projects, preferably wind and solar energy in Gujarat.

At present, it operates over 26 power stations and plans to become a 75,000 MW company by 2017 from the present 31,000 MW
