The 500-Mw expansion unit of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in Korba project of Chhattisgarh has achieved full load. "The full capacity has been achieved within a record one-month time from the date of synchronization," said a company spokesperson. The Korba project has six units, three of 200 MW each and another three of 500 MW each. The seventh unit of 500-Mw is the expansion unit of NTPC's Korba project.
With the operation of the seventh unit, the total installed capacity of the Korba project would stand at 2600 Mw.
Korba is one of the stations of NTPC that produces power at the cheapest rate. The project has completed more than 25 years of operation since the commercial operation of its first unit in 1983.
The plant has received Meritorious Performance Award from Government of India about 20 times and has been a model power station in operation and maintenance.
In the last financial year, the Korba project recorded the highest Plant Load Factor (PLF) among all the generating stations of the NTPC.
