City-based Ocimum Biosolutions today announced the launch of 'Pharmatracker', a LIMS (laboratory information management system) for the pharmaceutical industry.

Anuradha Acharya, CEO of Ocimum Biosolutions, said that Pharmatracker addresses all the issues that can not be taken care of by a generic LIMS.

It is flexible, extensible and scalable to cope with the rapid progress in pharmaceutical research and information technology, assuring quality at each stage of drug development, stability analysis, trend analysis etc.

"This solution will improve overall integrity of information and reduce the cost of building and maintaining interfaces between applications," she said.

According to Acharya, Ocimum has worked closely with pharmaceutical companies to bring out a LIMS for the industry, which caters to their specific needs and also helps them conform to various regulatory requirements.

"For a small lab using Pharmatracker, there would be no need to get an additional ERP package as Pharmatracker takes care of most of the functions performed in a lab," she said.

Ocimum, an ISO 9001:2000 certified life sciences contract R&D company, provides customised contract research services and next generation bioinformatics tools and services in the area of genomics, proteomics and LIMS for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

Its other products are: a sequence analysis package - Genchek; a gene optimisation tool - Optgene; siRNA design - iRNAchek; and a LIMS for pre-clinical research - Toxchek. Optgene and Genchek cater to the agri biotech sector while iRNAchek and LIMS could also be used by this sector.

The company caters to the needs of its customers located in the US, Canada, Europe, South Africa. "We are looking at some in the Asia-Pacific region. We have some customers in India also. We have partners in the US (multiple), Canada, Germany. We are planning to add many more partners very soon," Acharya said.

With an increasing response to its services and products, Ocimum Bio expects to clock $2 million revenue this year and register over 100 per cent annual growth hereafter.

It is is a Delaware registered company with its operations at Indianapolis, Indiana and a sales and distribution channel across the world. Ocimum's Indian arm was set in the city in 2001. Worldwide, Ocimum has a total employee strength of around 100.
