After the sudden breakdown of the Unit 1 of Banahrpali thermal power plant couple of days back, Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) has restored power production from the unit on Saturday afternoon.

For two days, there was no power production from the 420 MW power generating station in the Ib valley as the company’s second unit has been under maintenance since February 18. “Unit two will start production on March 10 after the completion of annual maintenance,” an official of OPGC said.

Meanwhile, the public hearing of OPGC’s proposed new capacity addition has been conducted at Manoharpur in Sundaergarh district. “The successful completion of the environment public hearing is expected to expedite the ambitious expansion plan of OPGC which is all set to add another 1,320 MW to its capacity,” OPGC said in a recent release.

Currently, it is operating 2x210 MW power station at Ib thermal power station in Jharsuguda district and is pursuing project development activities for capacity addition of 2x660 MW in the same location as well as development of captive coal block in Sundergarh district.

The public sector undertaking has been allotted two coal blocks, namely Manoharpur and Dip-side Manoharpur in Sundergarh.
