OPTCL spends Rs 584 crore on system improvement

The Orissa Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) has invested Rs 584.45 crore on system improvement in the past five years.

The amount has gone into installation of new transformers, construction of feeder bays, laying of associated lines and putting up of new grid sub stations.

In 2009-10, OPTCL spent Rs 260.72 crore on system improvement, says minister of state (energy) Atanu Sabsyasachi Nayak.

This includes laying a 400 KV D/C line from Meramundali in Dhenkanal district to Mendhasal on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar at a cost of Rs 89.10 crore and the installation of a 220/132 KV auto transformer at Paradeep grid sub station with 220 KV DC line from Duburi to Paradeep at a cost of Rs 77.02 crore.

OPTCL had spent Rs 121.59 crore in 2008-09, Rs 168.12 crore in 2007-08, Rs 32.88 crore in 2006-07 and Rs 1.14 crore in 2005-06 on system improvement.
