Oragadam, our template for greenfield facility: Renault

The Renault Nissan Alliance has said that its Oragadam green fieldfacility, near Chennai, will be a template for its Morocco facility.

It may be noted, for Alliance this facility is the first green field facility in the World.

Ashish Sinharoy, vice-president - communications and Corporate Affairs, Renault India said that the Oragadam facility, which is being set up by French-major Renault along with its Japanese partner Nissan with an investment of Rs 4,500 crore. “This facility will be our template for the second green facility, which the Alliance, is setting up at Morocco. Everything to do with the manufacturing system, will be replicated. The two plants will be operated in almost the same way with similar processes.”

While the back-end engineering alone need some changes, manufacturing system is neutral for both the plants, he said. At present 30 senior employees, who are involved in Morocco operations, from various verticals are being trained at Orgadam plant.

“They are the master trainers, once their training is over they will head back to Morocco and carry out down-the-line training in the facility there,” he said.The new facility is expected to go on stream in 2012 and will expand Renault’s production base for low-cost vehicles based on the Logan platform.
