By the end of the year, the company is planning to operationalise its BPO, KPO, and design and technical support services. In the region the company is scouting for land to establish a textile park in Ludhiana.

The apparel export major is setting up a garment-manufacturing unit in Mohali, taken over from the defunct Japanese Fujitsu India facility, with the state government having a 15 per cent stake in the project.

Speaking to Business Standard Sudhir Dhingra, chairman and managing director of Orient Craft, said the company would tap the potential of the state in terms of textile export, which has not been done so far. With computer-controlled machinery bought from Japan and Germany having been set up and 300 people employed, the first phase of commercial production will start soon.

The unit would be manufacturing high-end garments with value added in terms of hand embroidery.

"We will be blending the rich tradition of Punjabi art like Phulkari and in the future will enhance the rural art work by providing womenfolk training," said Dhingra, adding providing training to the labourers who are currently being sourced from Ludhiana was the focus area.

Orient Craft will start its own BPO operations for the fashion industry in the second phase, which would start by the end of the year. Dhingra also hinted at a joint venture with an IT company to start an IT BPO.

"We are considering BPO operations for the fashion industry that would be targeting our clients in the US and Europe to provide them with apparel related services. The seating capacity has not been decided yet. Also the Punjab government is trying to help us find a partner for the IT BPO," said Dhingra.

He further on added that a design and technical support service centre, employing 100 technical people to reduce the cost for overseas customer and to enhance the company's business, would be operational by the year end.

The company, which had a turnover of Rs 745 crore in 2004-05, is targeting to touch Rs 950 crore this financial year.
