Over 200 Indian participants at 'PlastPack'

The number of Indian participants at PlastPack Africa 2008, is the largest ever from one single country at this annual exhibition of plastic manufacturers.

They represent the All India Plastics Manufacturers' Association (AIPMA), Plastics Export Promotion Council (PLEXCONCIL) of India and the PlastIndia Foundation, which collectively comprise more than 4500 manufacturers in India, Indian Consul General in Durban, Harsh Vardhan Shringla said.

"The main objective of the visit to South Africa by Indian manufacturers is to have first hand knowledge of the plastics industry of the country and the African continent and to exchange, cooperate and develop mutual ties," he said.

"Participation of Indian delegation at the PlastPack Africa will help in generating long-term business interests focusing on value addition and sustainable development of the plastics sector," he added.

Shringla, who inaugurated the Indian section, said more Indian companies should use the KwaZulu-Natal Province as a hub for their economic activities in South Africa."

The Indian economy has seen rapid growth and India has the potential to emerge as a major plastic processor over the next decade. India exports plastic goods, polymers and machinery worldwide to more than 150 countries, he said.

The Plastic industry exhibition will last until May 25.
