FMCG major Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Health Care has reported a sharp decline of 78.85 per cent to Rs 10.1 crore for the quarter ended June 30.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 47.77 crore in the April-June quarter last year, P&G Hygiene & Health Care (PGHHCL) said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The company attributed the fall in net profit primarily to levy of excise duties on sanitary napkins in the Union Budget 2010.

The total income of the company, however, witnessed an upsurge of 6.2 per cent to Rs 199.32 crore in the June quarter against Rs 187.65 crore in the same quarter last year.

For the year ended June 30, 2010, the net profit of the company has risen marginally by 0.5 per cent to Rs 179.76 crore compared to Rs 178.85 last year. Besides, the total income for the same period has increased to Rs 933.11 crore from Rs 811.53 crore previous year.

The company has proposed a dividend of Rs 22.5 per share for the financial year 2009-1010, the filing added.
