Panacea gets Rs 188 cr order from govt for polio vaccines

The company has received the order to meet the requirements of national immunisation days

Drug firm Panacea Biotec today said it has received an order worth Rs 187.61 crore from the government to supply polio vaccines till May 2013.

The company has received order from the government to supply 345 million doses of trivalent oral Polio Vaccines (tOPV) and Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (bOPV) worth Rs 187.61 crore, to be supplied between December 2012 and May 2013, Panacea Biotec said in a statement.

The company has received the order to meet the requirements of national immunisation days (NIDs) and supplementary national immunisation days (SNIDS), it added.  

 "We are pleased with this opportunity of supplying OPV vaccines to meet the requirements of NIDs and SNIDs programmes.

These programmes have played a major role in eradication of polio in the country," Panacea Biotec Ltd Joint Managing Director Rajesh Jain said.    

As part of the order, the company would supply 125 million doses of tOPV in the current month and 70 million doses in January 2013, the company said.

It will also supply a total of 150 million doses of bOPV during the two months, it added.

Shares of the company were trading at Rs 122.25 on the BSE in afternoon trade, up 7.05% from its previous close.
