Paramount to expand retail business

According to the managing director of the company, Shaily Grover, it will open 10 exclusive outlets of Osim (a range of massage devices for high-end users) in the country, making a total of 33 stores by the end of 2008.

Grover told that he has a dedicated team to trace the real estate trend to match the cost the benefits in the business. He added that an investment of Rs 60 to Rs 80 cr goes in for opening one exclusive store. "We prefer to expand through good shopping mall as they have a dedicated mall management teams that suits our requirements. As we deal in a niche product, we do not rely on franchise model for expansion", he added.

The Paramount Surgimed unit has its manufacturing unit in Bhiwadi near Alwar and has an export turnover of about Rs 9 crore.

The company also forayed into marketing of Saboori Collezione, the elite bath fattings with hyrdo therapy and plans to open about a dozen exclusive outlets in next year.

Paramount Surgimed has also acquired retailing of Axara, the hi fashion wesern outfit brand for women from France. The exclusive marketing rights have been aucquired for the next 20 years for Osim and Axara ans Saboori Collezione is the in-house brand, the manufacturering of that is outsourced in different countries.

Grover said that import was viable as the Indian government does not encourage manufacturing. "As a distributor I have to get 20 sales tax numbers for working in different states across India. This drains so much of time and energy".

He said that every state has set its own rule book on VAT that really hurts our business.

Grover is happy with a 30% annual growth of his business. Though manufacturing would have been more lucrative, yet import is good option to cash in the growing urban Indians and cater to their aspirations, he added. The rupee appriciation has helped to attain healthy bottomlines The company has a group turnover of Rs 30 cr expects to touch a turnover of Rs 100 cr by year 2010.
