Kolkata-based Ruia Group Chairman Pawan K Ruia has stepped down as the director of group company Dunlop India.
"Ruia had already resigned as the chairman about two years back and now he has also stepped down as the director from Dunlop India, and Jessop & Co with effect from August 10," the company spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that this was to augment his energy to further the group's growth.
Ruia, however, continues to remain chairman of Falcon Tyres.
The resignation of Ruia from the Dunlop board comes against the backdrop of the West Bengal Labour minister Purnendu Bose accusing him of not running the Sahagunj plant properly.
On August 1, West Bengal Labour minister Purnendu Bose had said, "We have told Ruia that he is responsible for the situation in the unit and that there has been a blatant violation of all sections and sub-sections of the agreement between the union and the management in 2006."

In addition, the minister had asked Ruia to submit to the state government a detailed project report for facilitating the reopening of the unit.
"We have communicated to the government that we will hire a consultant to prepare the DPR, but a time frame cannot be given. Moreover, one DPR has been submitted with the industrial reconstruction department in the past," the Dunlop spokesperson added.
