The Pradeshik Co-operative Dairy Federation (PCDF) has initiated steps to curtail rising prices of milk and milk products due to the increasing market scarcity. The society has decided to empower over 40 small-time dairies to procure milk in bulk, intending to cut costs and raise the milk procurement targets.
The decision has been taken in the review meeting of the society in which managing director Ashok Kumar has passed the aforesaid order in view of rising losses and impending payments to the milkmen across the state. Minister for milk development, Avadhpal Yadav reportedly agreed that PCDF was running into heavy losses since a long time while the state government had actually brought the loss figures to negligible amounts.
The farmers and milkmen, on the other hand have been claiming that the society has around Rs 17 crore of their payments due, owing to which they have begun to sell their produce to private institutions. The Kanpur branch of PCDF has the largest unpaid amount of Rs. 2.2 crores followed by Moradabad, Agra, JP Nagar, Aligarh, Badaun, Muzaffarnagar and Varanasi.
