PCS Industries, in a bid to enter the geographical information system (GIS) and geographical positioning system (GPS) segment has recently acquired Infodesk Pvt Ltd, a company that has proven track record in the segment. |
Post takeover, Infodesk has become a wholly owned subsidiary of PCS and has been rechristened PCS Infodesk. |

With a state-of-the-art technology and skilled GIS and remote sensing specialists, the GIS Services Division (GSD) at PCS Infodesk offers solutions across the value-chain spectrum from map conversion, digitisation to advanced digital image processing of remotely sensed satellite data. |

PCS Infodesk also has in-house expertise on all major GIS and remote sensing applications such as Arc Info, Arc View, Map Info, Intergraph, Autocad Map, ERMapper, and ERDAS. |

"With a vast resource in terms of manpower, hardware and software, PCS Infodesk is equipped to meet the ever-growing data requirements of agencies world over, together with application development, resulting in enhanced capabilities for decision making and planning," said officials from PCS Industries. |

"This newly acquired division of PCS group will enable the group to capture a significant portion of the GIS and GPS segment in the country," explained Indranil Bandyopadhyay, general manager, eastern region, PCS Industries. |

PCS Industries has also been rechristened PCS Technologies and the company is looking at a 25 per cent growth in turnover over a net sales of Rs 300 crore in 2003-04. |

The company is also looking at a sizeable portion of market in which it operates in neighbouring countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bhutan. |

These countries are serviced by PCS International which operates out of Dubai but the service part is provided by centers which are close to these countries. For example, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh is serviced mainly by the eastern regional offices. |

Back home, PCS has recently bagged large orders from Coal India and its subsidiaries for supply of servers, hardware, and enterprise solution. "We are also in talks with Central Coalfields, Western Coalfields, SECL and BCCL for similar orders," explained Bandyopadhyay. |
