State-run trading firm PEC has invited bids for the import of 10,000 tonnes of pulses, including urad, for sale in the domestic market.
Bids will close on March 24 and a decision on the tender will be taken on the same day, PEC said on its website.
The company said bidders should source 4,000 tonnes each of black mapte (urad) and green lentils, 2,000 tonnes of desi chick peas (chana) from Myanmar, the US, Canada and Australia.
Black mapte should be from the current crop year, while the other pulses of 2010, it said, adding the shipment should reach Mumbai and Chennai ports between April and May.
In a separate bid, another trading firm MMTC said it plans to sell 6,400 tonnes of imported toor in the domestic market, bids for which will be close on March 29.
Toor grown in the 2009 crop year has been imported from Malawi/Mozambique and lying at godowns in Raigad, near Mumbai harbour, it said.
PEC, MMTC and other state-run trading agencies like STC import different varieties of pulses on behalf of the government to augment domestic supply.
