The Phase-II development of Vyttila Mobility Hub in Kochi, the nerve centre of the city and sub-urban transportation, would be implemented shortly with an estimated investment of Rs 433.34 crore.

Vyttila Mobility Hub Society (VMHS) would partner with a private player to develop the mobility project-cum-commercial complex project.

Phase-II involves construction of bus bays to accomodate 136 buses at one go across an area of 161,000 sft, and an underground 550,000 sft parking bay for 1,000 cars and bikes.

Also, a five-storied commercial complex would be developed in an area of 107,720 sft, VMHS informed.

While the first three levels will have commercial outlets, the fourth and fifth floors will accommodate four multiplexes, food courts and a children's play area.

Along the banks of the nearby river, open parking slots would be constructed to accomodate 500 two-wheelers. A walkway would be constructed connecting the bus terminal, metro rail station, boat jetty and the underground parking area. Information centres, ticket booking counters, ATMs, cloak rooms, refreshment stalls and children feeding area would also be provided at the bus bay.

The Kerala Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation (Kitco) has prepared the master plan for the project, which has received environment clearances. A total area of 25.16 acres has been earmarked for the second phase.

The VMHS has placed the project in the Partner Kerala Summit for private participation.

The hub, which had started operations a couple of years ago, now operates around 1,050 bus trips to various centres on a daily basis. Roughly 25,000 commuters are using the hub daily. After the Phase-II completion, it would serve as a gateway connecting all modes of transportation, rail, road and water to Kochi.
