Philips Innovation Campus (PIC), Bangalore-based software arm of consumer electronics giant Philips, intends to enhance its contribution for evolution of global products for various industries.

At present, PIC is working on a software for consumer appliances and healthcare systems.

Recently, PIC was credited with developing the software for a pre-clinical product (Imalytics) used in drug discovery and development. This is for the first time that the PIC was involved in the end-to-end software coding of a product.

The PIC took around 18-24 months to develop the software for Imalytics, which assists researchers in pharmaceutical companies and life sciences laboratories. Imalytics' applications are in research workflow, image analysis, quantification, report generation and data mining.

S Bhaskaran, senior director, Philips Medical Systems, said, "The pre-clinical workflow is a breakthrough solution which will accelerate the development of new compounds and technologies for predictive, preventive and personalised medicine."

Alexius Collette, CEO, PIC said the centre is now focusing on lighting products for energy-saving systems. Set up a decade ago, PIC now accounts for Philips' 20 per cent of the total software resource from 8 per cent in 1998. PIC employs close to 1,000 professionals.

Philips has joined hands with Manipal University and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, to build a talent and research pool for developing technologies in the emerging healthcare and consumer lifestyle domains.
