Central Coalfields staff restrict despatch

Central Coalfields (CCL), a subsidiary of Coal India (CIL) which caters to the needs of coal to the thermal power stations in north India, has restricted coal dispatches to power utilities as its employees refused to work during night following murder of two CCL employees on April 29, allegedly by Naxalites.

Coal dispatches from the two important coalfields of CCL, Piparwar and North Karanpura in Jharkhand were stopped for one week after April 29 as CCL employees refused to work until the CCL management provided adequate security to them. After assurance from the management and police, they resumed work only in daytime. They refused to work during the night.

According to sources, the company earlier used to dispatches nearly 72,000 tonnes of coal daily by 15 to 18 rakes to the power stations at Badarpur (Delhi), Bhatinda and Ropar (Punjab), Dadri, Tanda an Uchahar (UP) Faridabad (Haryana) from the four railway sidings of the area.

The law and order situation in Piparwar and North Karanpur has not yet improved despite the presence of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

CCL and Jharkhand government have taken approval from the Centre for posting of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to maintain law and order in Piparwae and North Karanpura to ensure coal transportation to various power stations in the country.
