Yogendra Vasupal, the co-founder of Stayzilla, is out on bail, after being arrested on criminal charges, filed by a vendor who claimed outstanding dues from the shuttered startup.

In an interview with the Economic Times, he points out that cash was never a constraint. It was a matter of principle.

He said that Stayzilla found discrepancies and forgery in much outdoor advertising done by Jigsaw Solutions. Ample opportunity was given to them to manage it but Jigsaw failed. Vasupal said he will win this battle in court.

On the question of contracts, Yasupal said Jigsaw was an intermediary who did not raise invoices with Stayzilla for outdoor, print, radio. The invoices came from experienced media agencies who would then pass on a commission to Jigsaw.

Vasupal said that the threats started in December. Initially, there was a difference of opinion between him and Sachit Singhi (cofounder, Stayzilla). While Singhi favoured a complaint, which even our advocates stood by, he decided to let things cool down. They realised it was difficult to lodge a complaint, after being so late.

He added that the investors were kind to him and his family. He said this is the kind of support that an entrepreneur requires in India, on the ground and in trenches.

He said there is no scope of mediation as he has done nothing wrong.
