Private Insurers Gain 10.4% Spoils

Private life insurance players have cornered over 10 per cent of the incremental life insurance business within two years of commencement of operations.

The latest figures given by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) show that private players have in December 2002 cornered 10.4 per cent of the new business.

This is as against their market share of just a little above nine per cent in the first six months of the fiscal (April-September).

The Life Insurance Corporation of India has over the first nine months according to the IRDA mopped up Rs 5,002.6 crore in premium income against the total private players
