Punjab developer plans Rs 952-cr industrial park

Promoting information technology and fashion technology in the region, Chandigarh-based Sukhm Infrastructures Private Ltd is planning to come up with a Rs 952-crore industrial park in Punjab in two phases.
 
In the first phase, the park will be spread over 125 acres (one acre is 43,560 sq feet), for which land has been acquired in the Roopnagar district and is around 8 km from the Chandigarh Airport.
 
The park will have knowledge centres focused on information technology, fashion technology (jewellery designing, perfumeries and cosmetics),industrial plots and a commercial zone . In the second phase, which will be spread over 100 acres, the project will include a real estate project.
 
Speaking to Business Standard,Tejinder Singh Bhatia, director, Sukhm Infrastructures, said the company would fund its expansion plan through using its own resources.
 
"Work on the first phase will begin from first week of June and the second phase in September or October this year," he added.
 
The integrated industrial park will have an IT tower spread over 35 acres, which will have call centres, software development companies and training IT professional institutes.
 
According to Bhatia the negotiations are on with international and Indian companies like TCS, DELL,Satyam, e-Kuber, DLF and in a months' time the plans will be finalised.
 
"We are looking at 7-8 players in the IT tower. We have already tied up with an Indian IT company, SGFS, which will be operating from a 100,000 sq feet and will come up with a 700 seater call centre," stated Bhatia.
 
The fashion tower will come up on 5 acres and has been conceptualised to promote upcoming designers, Punjab's art and culture and will be a platform for both national and international designers. Sukhm has approached the Austrian, the UK and Canadian High Commission trade consultants to promote the zone.
 
In the commercial zone a speciality mall with three-screen multiplex, shopping mall , conventional hall and a 140-room five star hotel site will come up in7.5 acres.
 
As part of the social amenities 50 acres have been marked.
 
Closest to Bhatia's heart is the home for the elderly and destitute, which will be looked after by an international accredited NGO, Indian National Portage Association .
 
Giving further details about the industrial plots Bhatia said, "We will be providing a base for selected non-polluting industries which are into R&D, telecom and technology development."
 
He further added that in the second phase the residential zone will cover 22.5 acres and consist of 1,200 multistoreyed apartments including penthouses and four-bedroom houses.
