The Punjab government is planning to set up a new focal point in Kapurthala to accommodate small and medium units scattered in the industrial pocket. Spread over 200-250 acres, the mixed-use industrial park would help the agriculture implements and diesel engine manufacturers to expand their operations.
The state government is likely to shortlist the proposed site in six months.
Speaking to Business Standard, Director-cum-Special Secretary, Industries and Commerce, S S Bains, said, “The industry department has conducted a survey for land suitable for the units. The feasibility survey at three locations is under process and the department is likely to submit its report within the next six months. After finalisation of land, we will do demand assessment for the project.”
Adding: “The proposed facility would help the existing and new industry to expand in an organised manner. At the moment the industries are expanding in a haphazard manner as area developed for the specific needs of industry is not provided. The proposed park would not only help in getting land at appropriate prices but also help to minimise pollution.”
