Punjab Tractors (PTL), a part of Mahindra & Mahindra, has suspended production for five days for the second time within almost one and half month.
"The production has been put on hold primarily because of improvement in productivity level. Moreover, we are desirous of giving fresh tractors to our customers by not creating unnecessary inventory," PTL Deputy Managing Director A Sawhney said today.
He said the company's productivity level has increased from 42 tractors per shift to 58 tractors per shift.
This time, PTL has announced to suspend its production from January 27 till January 31.
Last month, the company suspended its production for six days.
However, he said that employees would continue to get their salaries for suspended production days.
Against the backdrop of overall flat growth of tractor industry, PTL's cumulative tractor billing for April-December 2008 period reached 26,619 units against last year's 20,006, registering a growth of 33 per cent over the same period last year.
