Qualcomm forms incubation lab for mobile tech

Nasdaq-listed Qualcomm Incorporated today announced the setting up of Qualcomm Services Labs (QSL), which will incubate new services, applications to tap mobile technology. Qualcomm Services Labs is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated.

QSL will focus on mobile innovation by developing services, applications in five areas - communication, information/entertainment to deliver content, discovery, life automation, digital to physical access to relevant digital information to enhance your mobile interactions.

As the QSL services mature, the company will review if these products will be transferred to a new/existing Qualcomm division or will be established as a separate business entity. QSL, along with Qualcomm Ventures, is part of Qualcomm’s overall new business creation program to grow the wireless ecosystem. 

Isaac Babbs, general manager, QSLsaid, “As an incubator, QSL is structured to fast-track new capabilities and focus on innovative mobile applications and services.”
 
QSL recently launched its first four services— Neer (allows you to share your location with your close ones), Qilroy (a social-messaging service enables location-based conversations), Tapioca (URL shortening service that allows content providers to share multimedia), Vive (social recommendation service where users can share recommendations, ratings).
