Bangalore-based Rajesh Exports the world's largest gold jewellery manufacturer and India's largest gold jewellery exporter, plans to source diamonds worth Rs 1500 crore per annum from Gujarat.

The company also intends to focus on the $60 billion branded diamond jewellery market.

"With the foray into the branded diamond jewellery sector, Rajesh Exports is poised to make a mark on the international diamond jewellery market. Our key differentiator will be that, unlike most other players in the field who serve as labour-intensive operations, we will offer products created through complete in-house design "" from process to manufacturing," said Rajesh Mehta, chairman, Rajesh Exports Ltd.

"We will source diamonds worth Rs 200 crore from Gujarat in the first year of our operations, which may go up to Rs 1500 crore in the next five years. 12 out of the 13 diamonds in the world are processed in Gujarat. We plan to set up our offices in Gujarat for purchase operations," said Mehta.

The company plans to invest over Rs 800 crore in the next three years to fuel its growth in the international arena.

It will set up over 100 company-owned retail showrooms across the country in the next two years with an investment of Rs 450 crore.

"Initially we will set up our exclusive company owned retail outlets in the four leading south Indian states which consume over 60 per cent of the gold requirement in the country," said Mehta.

The company has established the world's largest jewellery manufacturing facility in Bangalore, with the most modern jewellery production infrastructure globally.

Rajesh Exports registered a more than 12-fold jump in revenues last year to cross net sales of Rs 3,050 crore. Over 80 per cent of its turnover comes from exports. The company plans to close the current financial year with a turnover between Rs 3500 crore to Rs 4000 crore. It plans to invest over $10 million in the next two years for marketing and branding exercises.

The company expects to achieve a business of over Rs 250 crore in the first year of its diamond business. The size of branded diamond jewellery is estimated to be Rs 15,000 crore per annum in India.
