The Rs 300-crore RAK Ceramics plant coming up on a fast track basis at Samalkot in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh is likely to be commissioned in July 2005.

The plant, once it starts commercial operations, will cater to the domestic and overseas requirement of ceramic tiles and sanitary wares.

The project coordinator of the R A K Ceramics India private limited, S S Yadav , told Business Standard that the civil works commenced in 2004 October and erection of machinery and production would start by July this year.

The plant is designed to produce 140,000 ceramic tiles per day and 7,500 pieces of sanitary ware of all sizes per day. Initially, the company will produce the 'Gives Porcellanato' category of tiles of 20,000 square metres per day.

The project spread across an area of 202 acres will commence production of tiles in July and of sanitaryware in September 2005. The company, which caters to customers across price ranges, is producing ceramic tiles of sizes that range from 20/20 cms to 120/180 cms.

"As far as the quality is concerned we meet the international ceramic industry certification of ISO-9001," Yadav said.

The company caters to the domestic market requirement but will also honour the mandate of the government that it had to export 25 per cent of it's produce to countries abroad.

Yadav said that all ceramic manufacturers in the country put together were able to meet only 50 per cent of the domestic demand and the remaining requirement was being imported.

The company, after commencing production, is expected to register a turnover of $ 28 million annually.

The Samalkot-based company was originally designed to run on natural gas but due to the concerned agencies failing to assure supply of natural gas, the firm has decided to run the firm with LPG gas.

The LPG gas is used in the process of baking of tiles. Site engineer Vargheese responsible for the construction of the plant is confident of completing of the project by July 2005.
