State-owned Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers is mulling entering into wind power generation segment with a proposed investment of around Rs 150 crore.

"We are looking seriously at entering into the wind power sector. Though no final decision has been taken so far, we would like to have 25 Mw power generation capacity," RCF Chairman and Managing Director U S Jha told reporters last evening.

The company is yet to decide on the location, but was considering to go for it alone, sans any partner, said Jha.

Foraying into wind power generation would cut the power bills of the company, amounting to Rs 1,296.49 crore in 2007-08 as compared to Rs 1,124.16 crore in the year before.

"Apart from that, we will be able to sell the surplus power to the grid and avail carbon credits to the tune of Rs 4-5 crore," RCF Director (Finance) Gautam Sen told PTI.

Sen said in the next four to five months, the company expects to finalise its plan of foraying into wind power generation.

RCF is also evaluating a coal gasification project at Talcher in association with GAIL and Coal India Limited.

"We are currently preparing the feasibility report on the project and if it promises to yield good for the company, we will go ahead with the project," Jha said.

RCF plans to invest Rs 600 crore in the current fiscal for capacity expansion as part of its Rs 5,000-6,000 crore capex plan for the current five-year plan period ending 2012.
