Ravi Foods, a biscuits and confectionery maker, is planning to set up three manufacturing units with an investment of Rs 40 crore by 2012. This would take the company’s manufacturing units to 11 across India.

“The units would come up in a phased manner on 10 acres of land at Mahabubnagar near here. The first manufacturing unit with an investment of Rs 20 crore will be operational from 2011 and have a production capacity of 5,000 tonnes per month,” said Ravinder Kumar Agarwal, managing director, Ravi Foods Private Limited.

The Hyderabad-based company is growing at 15 per cent year-on-year and currently has a production capacity of 1,80,000 tonnes per annum. On a monthly basis, it has a production capacity of 15,000 tonnes, which it is aiming to increase to 25,000 by 2012. The company also plans to launch new products in the chocolate and biscuit category.

Agarwal said they had distribution network across India and mainly catered to western and southern markets. “Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh are the major domestic market,” he said.

The group is aiming to achieve a Rs 250-crore export turnover by 2012, from the current Rs 150 crore. It exports 25 per cent of its total production to 30 countries across the globe including the US, Canada and 28 African countries.

“Currently, the demand is more than what we supply. We will be expanding our product portfolio in the future, mainly catering to the outsourcing companies and exporting countries,” said Ramesh Kumar Agarwal, director, Ravi Foods Private Limited.

Ravi Foods spends 5 per cent of its total turnover of Rs 400 crore on marketing and advertising. Its premium brand, Dukes biscuit, contributes Rs 200 crore to the revenues.

“The company does 50 per cent outsourcing work and 50 per cent own production,” Agarwal said, adding the revenue contribution from both these segments was in the same range.
