Ravi Uppal, President of Global Markets and a member of the ABB Group Executive Committee, has decided to relinquish from his position citing personal reasons. Uppal who was located in Zurich, plans to return India and pursue career outside of ABB, a company release said on Tuesday.

Uppal will however remain as the non-executive chairman of ABB in India, to help ensure continuity in the business in this rapidly growing market. The company will soon announce a successor to Uppal as the Head of Global Markets.

"I fully understand and respect Ravi's decision. ABB has benefitted greatly over the years from his energy and business knowledge. He leaves a strong legacy of growth and achievement, and the ABB Executive Committee wishes his every success in the future," said Michel Demare, CEO, ABB in a statement.

Uppal joined ABB in 1980, and then left the company to join Volvo. After a five-year stint in Volvo, he returned to ABB as the company's country manager for India in 2001.

ABB, a player in power and automation technologies, operates in around 100 countries and employs about 115,000 people.
