Reliance Communications (RCom) has acquired the Uganda-based Anupam Global Soft (U), a company holding public infrastructure provider licence (PIPL) and public service provider licence (PSPL) - the first step in the company's plans in the international mobile market.According to a release issued by RCom to the BSE today, the company is planning to offer mobile, fixed line, Internet, national and international long distance services in addition to Wimax and WiFi services in Uganda.RCom is planning to invest $500 million (around Rs 2,000 crore) in establishing a high quality, fully-IP enabled integerated telecom network in Uganda, the release added.Uganda has a population of approximately 30 million, and there were 3.016 million mobile subscribers by end-March 2007 - equivalent to a penetration rate of 10% providing ample scope of expansion, the release said.
