Rajkot Engineering Association (REA) has invited Italy’s industrial city Torino for industrial tie-up and open its office in Rajkot. A business delegation from Torino had visited Rajkot last month.
“Torino delegates has asked REA to place a representative in Italy to examine the possibility of orders that REA players can get from Torin and we are also considering this. As of now our talks are at an initial stage, said Bhavesh Patel, President of REA.
“Currently, Rajkot engineering industry has no such big market in European countries but there are opportunities, REA will take initiative to grab those opportunities. We are also interested in starting our branch or appoint a representative in Italy's industrial city,” he added.
Rajkot is a considered to be an important center for engineering goods, especially for automobile components, machine tools, foundry and casting.
The total turnover of Rajkot based engineering industries is more than Rs. 50,000 crores per year. Rajkot houses 3,000-odd engineering units mainly small and medium scale enterprises.
“Automotive, machine tools and casting industries will benefit, if we start an office in Torino. We can take advantage of slowdown in Europe as labour in Rajkot is cheap and we offer quality products,” said Sunil Lakhani, joint secretary, REA.
