Rural Electrification Corporation is in advanced stages of talks with North Delhi Power Ltd (NDPL), a joint venture (JV) between the Tata Group and the Delhi government which distributes electricity in parts of the city, to float a JV to offer technology and management expertise to power companies and systems.
A senior REC official said the talks had been on for some time and the idea was to use their expertise to bring in more technology in distribution networks. NDPL, he said, had embarked on an ambitious plan to implement high-tech automated systems for its entire distribution network.
Also as part of diversification plans, REC has planned to set up a 5-Mw, photo-voltaic solar power unit. The official said this is proposed to be done through REC Power Distribution Company Ltd, a subsidiary.
