REC quarterly profit climbs marginally to Rs 622.87 cr

Rural Electrification Corp (REC) today posted a marginal increase in net profit at Rs 622.87 crore for the three months to September.

The power sector lender's earning has improved from Rs 618.21 crore in the year-ago period.

REC's total income in the September quarter jumped to Rs 2,532.13 crore compared to Rs 2,026.66 crore in the same period last year.

Interest and finance expenses in the latest quarter jumped to Rs 1,564.87 crore from Rs 1,208.07 crore in the comparable period. This included a one-time upfront fee of over Rs 34 crore paid in relation to raising of external commercial syndicated loan, according to a regulatory filing.

In the six-month ended September, 2011, REC recorded a net profit of Rs 1,284.82 crore, up from Rs 1,205.57 crore in the year-ago period.

The total income shot up to Rs 4,866.72 crore in the latest quarter from Rs 3,926.25 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

"The company paid the final dividend of Rs 4 per equity share of Rs 10 each for the financial year ended March 31, in the month of September," the filing said.
