Anil Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Energy, announced an over Rs 100 crore disaster management plan to cope with unprecedented natural calamities in the future as Mumbai began to bounce back to normalcy today.According to a release issued by the company to the BSE today, the disaster management plan will focus on safety, reliability, back-up and standby of the network on a world-class basis.Ambani, in a media address, pointed out that the heavy rains were unprecedented, and he personally regretted the inconvenience caused to the company's 24 lakh customers. "The events of the last two weeks were neither predicted nor was there any adequate preparation done by our city," he said."Over 23.65 lakh of the total 24 lakh customers have power supply as of today with the company having mobilised additional 300 engineers and equipment from company's locations across the country," Ambani said."We were compelled to switch off power during the first 48 hours, in consultation with state authorities. I am happy that not a single casualty has been reported in our very vast customer base of 24 lakh customers across 384 kms," he said.The company also announced plans to replace damaged residential meters free of cost.
