Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Retail on Tuesday resumed its retail rollout in Orissa amid protests by local traders.

The company opened a new store at the Gopabandhu square in the morning, then pulled down shutters briefly as hundreds of traders attacked the showroom. It had re-opened its outlet at the city's Kalpana Square yesterday.

Police said an employee of at the Kalpana Square outlet suffered injuries during stone-throwing by protestors.

The company plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore for 235 Reliance Fresh outlets in the state, 11 of them in Bhubaneswar and nine in Cuttack. PTI

Reliance Retail plans open its proposed outlet at Nayapalli before Dusshera.

Last month, Reliance Fresh stores in the state were forced to close by police amid protests from traders, which prompted the company to rethink on whether to sell fruits or vegetables in the stores or not.

"No decision has been taken as yet, but discussions are on, and we might not sell fruits and vegetables in stores and focus on other items like cereals, staple and dairy products etc," a company official said.

Today, portions of the company's showrooms at both the places were also damaged and the employees were fearing loss of jobs.
