Anil Ambani-group firm Reliance Energy today said it added 23,071 consumers across categories in the June quarter, of which 17,970 were retail customers.
The addition in retail consumers is a tad lower than rival Tata Power's 18,300 in the same period.
Reliance Energy, a division of Reliance Infrastructure, also added 5,022 commercial and 79 industrial connections in the April-June 2010 period, a press release issued here said.
Since late 2009, consumers were given a choice by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to switch between operators which led to competition between the power majors.
R Infra said migration of consumers away from the company has seen a steady decline since the policy came into effect. From 2,200 a week earlier, the migration figures stood at 500-600 a week in the June quarter, the statement added.
"This growth (in consumers) is truly overwhelming... RInfra believes in best practices and constantly thrives for increased service efficiencies," a spokesperson for the company said.
