In a significant move, the government today awarded Reliance the licence for providing basic services in 16 of the 18 circles it applied for.
The government did not sign the licence agreement with Reliance for the Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir circle.
The 16 circles include those in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.

Reliance, which is the first company to bag licences for basic services, today submitted Rs 700 crore as entry fee and another Rs 20,000 crore in bank guarantees. The company has also settled all outstanding dues and has fulfilled other eligibility requirement as stipulated in the letter of intent (LoI).
