Reliance Infocomm has introduced ten-digit mobile phones in Himachal Pradesh, the first of its kind in the country.

"We have migrated to the '93 series'," Piyush Gupta, a company executive, said here yesterday.

The company also announced its plans to expand its service to 69 towns of Himachal Pradesh in six months, covering 10 of the 12 districts of the state (Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una).

The company's latest mobile set""Feature rich LG 5130 Colour Handset""was launched. The price is Rs 4,999 and will offer some the most update facilities available in the country.

When asked how the company plans to compete with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Bharti Telenet, which have been in the region for several years, Gupta said, "We will compete on quality."

He also hinted at starting WLL (FWP) service shortly in Himachal Pradesh.

"Reliance Infocomm on Friday simultaneously launched the Reliance India Mobile (RIM) service in Shimla, Solan, and Parwanoo. The launch comes on the heels of a hefty tariff reduction by the company," Gupta said.

"Prepaid calls to any Reliance India Mobile or Reliance India phone are offered at 99 paise per minute, and to other GSM operators and landlines at Rs 1.79," Gupta added.

All prepaid calls from Reliance India Mobile to any WLL phone outside the circle cost Rs 1.79 per minute, and to other GSM operators and landlines Rs 2.49 per minute. The post-paid rates are also very competitive.
