The app, which went live on April 7, is similar to other chat applications like WhatsApp, Line, Hike and Wechat.
In the Google play store, the app information says it connects for free across any mobile data connection or WiFi, "no matter where in the world you are".
Along with "voice, video, conferencing, messaging, instant video, sticker, doodles, and emoticons" facilities, the application also offers location-sharing and status-sharing.The app will also be launched for Windows platform soon, according to people close to the development.
RJio has invested about $7 billion in laying the infrastructure but is yet to launch its 4G mobile services. It is expected that the company will announce the 4G launch around June this year. It has pan-India spectrum in the 2,300MHz frequency band in 22 circles and 1,800 MHz spectrum in 14 circles.
