Reliance Life Insurance hikes number of agents by 20%

Company launches child education plan for education purpose

Reliance Life Insurance Company (RLIC), part of Reliance Capital Limited, will increase the number of agents by 20 per cent by the end of the current financial year as part of its expansion plans.

RLIC officials made the announcement at the launch of a new child insurance plan - ‘Reliance Education Plan’ in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. It expects 12 per cent rise in overall business with the launch of this education plan.

“Agents are our main strength and we are going to add about 20,000 agents to our team by the end of this year as part of our expansion plans,” said Manoranjan Sahoo, chief agency officer of RLIC.

The company, at present, has a team of 100,000 agents.

About the new policy, he said, “A large part of households’ savings and expenditure goes towards education and career planning of a child as cost of education is increasing. Reliance Education Plan is designed to help, systematically save and secure a child’s career plans and provide future income as per chosen milestones.”

RLIC recorded new business premium income of Rs 2,070 crore and total premium of Rs 4,621 crore with a total of 479,078 policies issued for the year ended March 31, 2015.

Sahoo said, “We are expecting about 12 per cent rise in overall business this year with the launch of this new policy for children.”

“Gujarat is an important state for Reliance Life with over 85,000 policies issued in the region through 64 branches. The people of Gujarat are progressive in nature and would find this plan very relevant to plan for their child's career”, he added.

Meanwhile, RLIC had received about 24,000 complaints of spurious calls during FY 2014-15 while, across the industry, over 100,000 complaints have been registered in this time. However, the company claimed that due to precautionary steps taken by the company, these kinds of complaints decreased by 27 per cent.
